Objectif(s): The researchers program in the Northwest territories
Description du projet: The proposed research will focus on a wilderness camp for inmates run by Charlie Barnaby, an elder from Fort Good Hope. The focus of this research will be on the culturally based nature of this program and the aspects that distinguish it from conventional sentencing (i.e. incarceration). Primary data collection will include daily research journals and interviews with Mr. Barnaby. The latter will provide insight on perceptions of justice and its administration within the Dene community. The researcher will travel to Fort Good Hope by boat and accommodations will be provided by the camp. Interviews will be conducted after informed consent has been granted and data will be collected via note taking and audio-tape recording.
