Objective(s): To research the history of the Federal government of Canada's Inuit residential school system in order to 1) establish an in depth study as to the administrative, religious, economic and daily functions of the schools; 2) establish the difference between residential school from any other form of school; 3) establish the difference between segregated Inuit schools and public schools; 4) demonstrate the roles of the three major operators of the Inuit school system, these being the Roman Catholic church, the Anglican church and the Canadian federal government; 5) document the residential school systems' introduction of a foreign language, diet, religion, clothing and customs on the Inuit; 5) interview Inuit s to their experiences, opinions and assessment of the residential school system on the Inuit; 6) investigate possible physical, mental and sexual abuse of pupils and 7) to provide the findings of this research to the Inuit.

Project Description: Plan to interview approximately 8 people in Yellowknife who went to these schools. Interviews will be kept confidential. My research will be explained in detail and permission obtained from individuals who are being asked to provide their input. The ACUNS code of ethics for research in the north will be employed. All informants will be shown any information given and asked to approve its use. Interviews will be done by taking notes of individuals responses to questions. Nothing will be published without approval. A finished copy of the findings will be made available to all informants.
