Objective(s): To explore and evaluate the interrelations between Dene culture, identity and the land, as these interrelations are manifest in the particular instance of the histories of specific families. The focus will be on the changes and continuities that have occurred with regards to patterns of Dene culture, way of life and identity and the relationship that these three elements have had with the local natural environment as played out in the context of family histories.
Project Description: Research will take place in the Town of Fort Good Hope during the summer of 1996. It will expand on research begun in 1995 and will be designed as a family history project. Semi-structured interviews will be employed as well as participation in and observations of community life.
