Objective(s): To continue to investigate permafrost landform/ environmental-relationships with the following objectives: 1) Quantify microclimate, soil and vegetation characteristics of permafrost landforms; and 2) evaluate the long-term ecological responses to human- induces disturbances associated with the abandoned CANOL Project.
Project Description: Since 1974 permafrost bodies in the study area have been under investigation with intensive work starting in 1990. Since 1977 CANOL disturbances have been subject to ecological investigation. These investigations include the year round operation of automated operation of weather stations, on site monitoring of changes in the characteristics of the study landforms and assessing the vegetation and methods of improving revegetation on northern surface disturbance.
