Objective(s): To prepare a section on the history of Iglulingmiut for the History of Nunavut that is being prepared for the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada; to consult with the elders of Igloolik and the Igloolik Elder's Society as to the topics they feel should be included in a history of Nunavut and particularly in a focus section on the Iglulingmiut; and to work with the Igloolik Elder's Society to develop a model of how to (and how not to) approach elders for this project and this model will then be used with other communities to ensure the participation of as many elders as possible in Parks Canada's History of Nunavut project.

Project Description: The researcher has been contracted by Parks Canada to write a history of Nunavut for the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. This study will focus on two areas: 1/features of the Inuit culture common throughout Nunavut and 2/the different regional groups within Nunavut. Through interviews and consultation with the Igloolik Elders' Society, a history of Igloolik will be written. Drafts of this project will be submitted to the society for their approval.
