Objective(s): To provide detailed and/or supplemental baseline data on aquatic biota (fish, benthic invertebrates, plankton) and the limnology of the area; to provide information on the species present/absent in the area in addition to population estimates; to evaluate fish habitat and the degree of utilization for each fish species will be assessed; to document fish biological parameters (length, weight, condition factor, sexual maturity, age, etc.) ; to investigate fish diets; and to obtain fish tissues for determination of background metal levels.
Project Description: The researcher will determine fish presence/absence and/or densities (number of fish per unit stream length) by electrofishing representative habitat (eg. pool, riffle, run) and the setting of baited minnow traps. When these two methods are not practical (eg. depth too great or flow too fast), gillnets and/or beach seines will be used. Fish caught will be identified, measured, weighed, sexed and the condition will be noted. Tissues will be analyzed for metal levels
