Objective(s): To estimate the the relative abundance, assess stock status and describe the spring distribution and movements of bowheads in Foxe Basin; to locate a study site where a hydrophone array could be set up to count migrating bowheads in future years; and to work with communities of Igloolik and Hall Beach and coordinate the TFN-funded project with the community-based project (funded by CRMP) to assess the status of bowheads in Foxe Basin.

Project Description: The researcher will make daily flights from Igloolik to look for bowheads. The researcher will estimate the relative abundance, assess stock status and describe the spring distribution and movements of the bowheads in Foxe Basin. The researcher will also locate a study site where a hydrophone array could be set up to count migrating bowheads in future years.
