Objective(s): To examine the relaionships of the rocks in the field and collect specimens; to determine the age(s) of the granitoid rocks surrounding the metasedimentary rocks of the Lake Harbour Group in the vicinity of the village of Lake Harbour(LHG); to determine their relationship to the Lake Harbour metasedimentary rocks; to bracket the timing of deposition of the rocks of the LHG; and to determine the age(s) of crosscutting intrusions.
Project Description: The bedrock geology of this area preserves a record of geological processes which occurred over 2 billion years ago, a collision of the continental margin (including Lake Harbour rocks) with another continental block and this resulted in a mountain belt. The eroded ancient mountain belt (the Lake Harbour rock) will be examined to determine the age of the rock to better understand the continental margin and to detrmine the time of this collision.
