Objective(s): To examine the relationships of the rocks in the field and collect specimens in order to: (1) determine the ages of the granitoid rocks immediately east of the metasedimentary rocks of the Lake Harbour Group (LHG) near Lake Harbour; (2) to estimate the timing of the deposition of these rocks; (3) to determine the ages of granitoid rocks associated with the LHG-equivalent rocks located near Cape Dorset; (4) to estimate the timing of the deposition of these rocks.

Project Description: The geology of the bedrock located in southern Baffin Island holds a record of the geological activities that took place over two billion years ago. The researchers will investigate an ancient collision between two groups of rocks that resulted in the formation of an ancient mountain range. The study is part of a larger project that includes field work in the Torngat Mountains and the Ungava region.
