Objective(s): To collect information from Baker Lake elders about the Thirty Mile Lake area; to provide this information in a presentation to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in order to determine if the caribou crossing area should be designated as a National Historic Site.

Project Description: This oral history project is complementary to an archaeological survey which will be conducted in the Thirty Mile Lake area. The research team will be conducting interviews with Baker Lake elders in order to determine the significance of this area to wildlife and people. This research will support a presentation to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada to determine if this area should be designated as a National Historic Site.
