Objective(s): To collect water depth measurements through the ice using helicopters; to ensure a safe shipping route through Dease Strait from Coppermine to Victoria Strait; to obtain gravity measurements as part of an on-going task for collecting similar measurements over the entire arctic.

Project Description: In the second year of a 4-5 year project, the researchers will continue to collect water depth and gravity measurements in the Dease Strait and Coronatio Gulf. Helicopters will land at pre-determined sites on the ice to collect the data. Another helicopter will collect similar data but using an airborne electromagnetic technique. The airborne technique involves towing a device (9 metres long) under the helicopter to obtain additional data.
