Objective(s): To collect water depth measurements through the ice using helicopters; to find a safe shipping route through the Coronation Gulf and Victoria Strait for future shipping requirements; to take gravity measurements as part of an ongoing task to obtain similar measurements over the entire Arctic.
Project Description: 1993 activities represent the first phase of a four-year project to collect water depth and gravity measurements as well as to determine a safe shipping route through the Coronation Gulf and Victoria Strait. Two helicopters will land at predetermined locations on the sea ice to take measurements. Another helicopter will collect water depth information using airborne electromagnetic techniques. Phase 1 will be restricted to the Coronation Gulf region.
