Objective(s): To analyze how Inuit of Iqaluit use outpost camps to both ensure and solidify ties to the land; to collect stories and memories of those Inuit involved with the outpost camps.
Project Description: The researcher will collect information about the history of outpost camps in the Frobisher Bay area. Individuals who currently use these outpost camps will be interviewed in order to document and compare their experiences living in the camps with living in Iqaluit. Benefits of `outpost camp' life will be evaluated. Information collected will be used for a doctoral (Ph.D.) thesis in socio-cultural anthropology at the University of Washington.
