Objective(s): To explore the effectiveness of aquatic science in responding to challenges imposed by environmental concerns and resource management activities in the Mackenzie Basin. The study will: (1) provide an overview of aquatic research in the Mackenzie Basin; (2) evaluate the utility and quality of this research; (3) identify future needs for aquatic research and its coordination; (4) consider means of enhancing local participation in research and in implementation of its findings; (5) make recommendations to government, university and industry.

Project Description: The researchers will review available literature on aquatic science and environmental management in the Mackenzie Basin in order to identify appropriate criteria for evaluation of aquatic science activities. All aquatic science documents will then be catalogued. As well, aquatic researchers and other interested parties will be surveyed for information and opinions concerning aquatic science in the region.
