Objective(s): To test whether the predicted global warming has affected the reproductive status of the arctic tree-line tree species by comparing the vegetative versus sexual reproductive status of trees from studies done in 1972 and 1973 to those collected in this study.

Project Description: Tree-line plant species are sensitive to changes in climate. Most trees growing in the tree-line reproduce by `layering' which means that they do not produce seeds but instead the tree limbs of individual trees produce roots to generate another `tree'. Seeds can only be produced when the summer climate is warm enough. By monitor- ing the reproduction of trees in the tree-line, information can be gathered to determine if the climate is gradually warming.
