Objective(s): To document the perceived threats to traditional aboriginal lifestyles from developments associated with the establishment of the Auyuittuq National Park Reserve; to audit the park-aboriginal relationship in the north for the successful implementation of protective measures for heritage conservation.
Project Description: In this study, Native concerns will be documented by collecting available literature and interviewing Auyuittuk National Park staff and residents of Pangnirtung. Questions to be asked will focus on the residents' feelings towards the Park, including how and why they like or dislike the Park as they relate to: economic benefits; tourists; protection of local resources as part of the Park; and resident involvement in joint management.
