Objective(s): To use compositional constraints to deduce modes of entrainment, transport, and release of sediment carried directly by glacier ice, and the influence of sediment load on dynamic behavior of the glacier; to describe the glacial history of valleys occupied by Aktineq and Camp glaciers; to find stable isotope signatures characteristic of various types of glacier, aufeis, and buried ice; to deploy ground-probing radar in known areas of buried ice; to date old glacial sequences; to investigate TL properties of sediment in transport in basal load of glacier; to define and classify the mechanisms of clast attrition by basal ice;
Project Description: The researcher and his team will determine the geological and climatic influences on the retreat, glacial and periglacial history of valleys in which retreating glaciers lie, to assess the relative influence of climate and the significance of this retreat in the context of the glacial and periglacial events of the past 10,000 years.
