Objective(s): To test and evaluate the technology of sonar mapping linked to global positioning systems to make bathymetric maps; to make a bathymetric map of Lac Belot and obtain an estimate of the relative distribution of the fish biomass in the lake; to obtain 2-4 samples of soil from around Lac Belot; to collect liver, muscle and blood samples from not more than 6 lake trout from Lac Belot and 6 ground squirrels.

Project Description: The researcher and his team will engage in a bathymetric survey to map the contours of the bottom of Lac Belot, as well as determine the distribution of fish in the lake. Several soil samples will be collected to determine the amount of atmospheric dust fallout. As well, tissue samples from 6 lake trout and 6 ground squirrels are to be collected to compare some aspects of their biochemistry with that of the same species from Alaska.
