Objective(s): To produce a modern history of the two communities for the period 1948-1992, reflecting the geography and social development of the region acceptable for use in territorial school curriculum; to produce in collaboration with the Tourism and Development officers in the two communities, material derived from the study for use in tourist brochures; one or more magazine articles describing the origin and devlopment of the two settlements over the past 40 years;
Project Description: The Researcher will study the historical geography of the central part of the Kitikmeot Region. This will include investigations into the landscapes of the region and the changing relationship of man with the land, both the aboriginal inhabitants and the Europeans who followed. The emphasis of this study is on developments over the past four decades.
