Objective(s): To obtain sediment cores from several lakes on the Fosheim Peninsula; to obtain detailed bathymetric surveys from the lakes cored; to make collections of modern diatoms and pollen for reference, taxonomic and ecological purposes;
Project Description: The Researcher will continue to investigate lakes on the unglaciated terrain of Fosheim Peninsula to determine the former environments of high and low arctic lakes. By analyzing the physical and chemical properties of the sediments, as well as the preserved biological remains within them, the nature and timing of rapid environmental changes at the close of the last glaciation may be explained.
