Objective(s): To continue to study the local history through the eyes of the locals, including the stories of early settlement on the Island, aspects of fur-trapping and hunting, past and present; profiling the ardent self-sufficiency and autonomy that Bankslanders embody; exploring Native ethnicity; and studying local attitudes towards newly announced plans for Muskox herding on the island;
Project Description: The Researcher will continue an ethnographic study of the people and history of Sachs Harbour. An investigation of the local economic systems and land use patterns will be undertaken, the hamlet political system and its interaction with other levels of government will be documented and Inuit history on Banksland will be explored. The focus will be on the locals interpretations of themselves and their history.
