Objective(s): To collect oral historical information to: 1) determine what sites (archaeological, legendary, etc.) are considered significant to the people of Tuktoyaktuk and warrant protection should development occur, 2) learn about traditional land use patterns that can help archaeologists interpret prehistoric site function and settlement pattern, 3) record traditionally used toponyms, 4) train a resident of Tuktoyaktuk in the methods of recording traditional knowledge;
Project Description: The Researcher will carry out interviews with elders to elicit information on heritage sites considered significant to the Inuvialuit and that warrant protection should development occur. Information will also be gathered on traditional land use, in terms of how people decided where and when to move and the activities carried on at different localities.
