Objectif(s): 1) To study whether underwater shipping noise interferes with beluga communication; to record whale calls using a hydrophone array and measure their source dB levels in relation to normal background noise and underwater vessel noise; 2) To test playback as a method of studying responses of beluga whales to underwater ship noise;

Description du projet: The field party will work at a camp near the ice edge. The research will study whether underwater shipping noise interferes with beluga communication. Whale calls will be recorded and measured and related to normal background noise and underwater vessel noise. A playback experiment will be conducted to study responses of beluga whales to underwater vessel noise.
