Objective(s): To determine whether or not the requirements of native employment with Canadian Reindeer Ltd. fraws employees away from traditional seasonal patterns of hunting and fishing; to determine whether or not the availability of commercial reindeer meat has affected traditional patterns of hunting and fishing; to determine whether of not modern technology has had a beneficial impact upon the evolution of reindeer herd operations; to determine whether of not the construction of the Dempster highway has had a beneficial impact upon the growth of Canadian Reindeer Ltd.;

Project Description: This study will examine the social and economic impacts of Canada's only commercial reindeer operation upon traditional patterns of hunting and fishing of the Inuvialuit. The impact of technology and transportation upon the operations will also be examined.
