Objectif(s): To research the history of Earth-surface environments between about 1 billion and 700 million years ago.

Description du projet: This continuing research addresses the history of Earth-surface environments between about 1 billion and 700 million years ago. The objective for 2019 is to obtain field measurements and samples. A base-camp of two people will be deployed by helicopter, and all work done on foot. Working on mountainside rock exposures, the research team will collect fist-sized samples for later geochemical analyses using a rock hammer. If the weather is good, the work will take only a few days (2-4). The team will have no motorised equipment or fuel, beyond 2 litres of camp fuel for heating water. Only freeze-dried food will be used, which will be stored and disposed of responsibly (removal of refuse to Norman Wells municipal garbage) leave the campsite as it was found. Copies of publications in ensuing years, published in standard scientific journals, will be archived with Aurora Research Institute. The research team will make the findings accessible in everyday language as illustrated poster(s) that can be used in outreach activities. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 16, 2019 to August 31, 2019.
