Description du projet: The objectives of the research are to conduct an assessment of whitefish diet and contaminants. Two technicians will collect approximately 60 samples over 7 days at Billy’s Creek in July 2016 and an additional 60 samples at the Hornaday River in August and October 2016. Data will be collected on: species, location, date/time, catch-effort/gear type, length, weight, sex, maturity, otolith, stomach content (frozen), muscle sample (frozen). Community members will be trained as technicians by a Fisheries Resource Specialist on the skills required for the collection of biological fish samples. The results will be communicated through a presentation by the youth researchers and the technicians to the Paulatuk Hunters and Trappers Committee (HTC) members at a regular HTC meeting and to community members during the HTC annual general meeting. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 1, 2016 to December 1, 2016.
