Objective(s): To conduct an assessment of whitefish diet and contaminants.

Project Description: The objectives of the research are to conduct an assessment of whitefish diet and contaminants. Two technicians will collect approximately 60 samples over 7 days at Billy’s Creek in July 2017 and an additional 60 samples at the Hornaday River in August 2017, collecting data on: species, location, date/time, catch effort/gear type, length, weight, sex, maturity, otolith, stomach content (frozen), muscle sample (frozen). The results will be communicated through a presentation by the youth research and the technicians to the Paulatuk Hunters and Trappers Committee (HTC) board members at a regular HTC meeting and to community members during the HTC annual general meeting. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from July 11, 2017 to December 31, 2017.
