Objectif(s): The overarching objective of the project is to understand the nature of the Paleoproterozoic western boundary of the Slave craton for both academic and economic reasons. A particular focus of the magnetotelluic technique (MT) component is to define the lithospheric-scale geometry of the transition between the Slave craton and the Bear province. Electromagnetic studies, using the MT, have demonstrated that they can contribute significantly to such studies by defining both the base of the lithosphere and by determining structural features within the mantle. This research activity is a component of activities on Archean cratons to determine and understand the dominant tectonic processes during the early evolution of the Earth, particularly lithosphere formation and deformation processes. This knowledge will enhance exploration for earth resources, particularly diamonds.
