Objectif(s): This research is a study of the changes in the climate and vegetation across the Canadian Arctic for the past 10 000 years. By studying lake sediments, the researchers will determine how climate changes in the past affected the vegetation of the region. Lakes are continually accumulating sediment, so deeper sediment layers represent older time periods. This research will provide important information about the sensitivity of arctic vegetation to climate change. The specific objectives are to; 1) describe the changes in the vegetation across the Arctic for the past 10 000 years; 2) determine if the climate changes in the same way and at the same time across the entire Arctic; and 3) determine the extent of the present-day climate changes across the Arctic.
