Objectif(s): To determine the biology and preservation of the reef- building organisms, to determine the internal structure & ecological zonation of the reefs; and to determine the environment in which the reefs grew.

Description du projet: Field work will involve detailed measurement & description of stratigraphic sections using a range pole and compass, and mapping and selective sampling of reefs using a geological hammer. Follow-up work at Queen's University will involve analysis of field data and examination of samples using a variety of laboratory techniques. These reefs are an ecological "missing link" between the two major reef types in earth history and are made entirely by bacteria.
