Objectif(s): To contribute to identification and implementation of the most cost-effective and flexible health care service system for the Inuvik region, in anticipation of an increase in demand for health services due to impacts from future oil and gas development, by (1) identifying costs of primary health services provided by Community Health Centres; (2) identifying costs of primary services provided by physician and public health services in larger communities; and (3) comparing costs of delivering primary health care through the community-based primary care nurse model versus the medical model.

Description du projet: Past oil and gas activities in the Inuvik region increased demands on all facets of community services, particularly health services, due to impacts on the population, economy, social structure and culture. Health service development tended to be reactive. This study will examine the cost(s) and effectiveness of different health care delivery models in order to assess future health care needs. Information will be collected from internal Dept. of Health sources.
