Objectif(s): To catalogue species of marine macroalgae in the Whale Cove region; to assess the economic potential of certain species of macroalgae to be processed and marketed as exotic teas. Species with economic potential will be assessed for the presence of contaminants.
Description du projet: The researcher will survey the Whale Cove area to determine the types of macroalgae (i.e., seaweed) present. Samples of the seaweed collected will be examined in consultation with Canadian Kelp Resources Ltd. for their economic potential as exotic types of tea. Species that show promise as ingredients in tea products will also be analyzed for the presence of contaminants.
