Objectif(s): To undertake preliminary investigations to determine the appropriateness of the proposed anthropological research project; to collect data on the significance of furs & fur trapping in the life, identity, & economy of the Dene in fort Good Hope and Colville Lake; to examine & compare trapping practices; to document conservation practices & the role they play as strategies that promote resource sustainability, along with the means whereby these strategies are taught to young people; to train Dene youth in the methods of data collection & analysis so the Dene people can utilize their skills to train others & to conduct research in other villages.

Description du projet: The researcher will begin collecting dissertation data on the role of fur trapping in the subsistence economy of Dene people living in the villages of Fort Good Hope and Colville Lake. The study will focus on strategies that sustain common-pool resources as opposed to strategies that attempt to extract "surpluses" for profit.
