Objectif(s): To assess how sediment is deposited in a high arctic fiord which has a large glacier at tidewater; to determine how the glaciers on this portion of Ellesmere Island have changed since the end of the Ice Ages by examining the changes in sedimentation in the fiord since it was occupied by glaciers about 9000 years ago; to study how present and potential future global environmental change will affect glaciation and sedimentation given the response of glaciers to change during the period since the Ice Ages.

Description du projet: The Researcher will use a special type of echo sounder to determine the depth of the water and the thickness of the sediments beneath down to bedrock. The instrument also shows the patterms of sediment distribution around the fiord. From this, an assessment can be made of where the sediment has come from, how much there is and how the patterns of sedimentation have changed during the entire period since deposition started.
