Project Description: Economic opportunities in traditional forestry (i.e. timber production) in the area are limited due to the slow tree growth rates and distance to markets. The 'Developing Sustainable Non-timber Forest Products' project will provide an initial assessment of local business opportunities in non-timber forest products. This project will identify some potential products, identify their distribution and abundance (sustainability), and undertake market research. The distribution and abundance of some potential non-timber forest products (likely berries) will be assessed based on the results of community interviews. Sites will be accessed by road or boat.
