Objective(s): The objective of this research is to measure the flow in a number of channels in the delta and to quantify the mass of suspended sediment transported through the channels. This will be related to changing waters due to seiche effects from Great Slave La

Project Description: The field crew will live on the delta for approximately 8-9 weeks at a site established by the principal investigator in 1997 on Steamboat Channel. Transportation will be by boat. Three channels will be studied in detail. At each study site the researchers will measure the speed of the flow using an electronic velocity meter, measure the cross sectional profile of the channel with tape and rod and sample the river channel for suspended sediment using a DH48 composite sampler. Water level instruments will be installed at upstream and downstream parts of the channel to measure changes in the gradients.
