Objectif(s): To conduct a fish and fish habitat assessment at watercourse at Km 40.2 on Dempster Highway.

Description du projet: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.5069. The goal is to conduct a fish and fish habitat assessment at watercourse at Km 40.2 on Dempster Highway. At the site the fish and fish habitat survey will be conducted at six stream transects established 100 m upstream, 50 m upstream, centerline, 100 m downstream, 200 m downstream, and 300 downstream. Where possible, the following field information and observations will be collected at the site: location (recorded with handheld GPS unit); pictures; channel characteristics; bank characteristics; substrate composition; cover; vegetation characteristics; physical channel characteristics; in-situ water quality measurements (including turbidity, DO, pH, conductivity and temperature); and, high water marks or ice scar evidence will be noted. Fish sampling will use non-invasive techniques to prevent potential injury to fish. Sampling will include the use of baited minnow traps, seine net or hoop net. Fish collected will be identified, enumerated, measured for length and weight, and the presence of any parasites, deformities or injuries will be noted before the fish is released back into the watercourse. Results of the fish and fish habitat assessment will be provided to the Ft McPherson Renewable Resource Council. The Gwich'in Renewable Resource Board has been informed with no issues. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from September 24, 2021 to November 30, 2021.
