Objective(s): The primary research objective is to develop a practical risk assessment protocol for WTP residuals management.
Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 6133. The primary research objective is to develop a practical risk assessment protocol for WTP residuals management. A draft risk assessment framework will be developed during the winter of 2025. The risk assessment framework will be piloted at Fort Resolution during the spring and early summer of 2025. The study will include WTP residuals (effluent) and receiving environment sampling and characterization, followed by a pilot study including application of the preliminary risk assessment framework for the study site. The risk assessment framework will then be revised based on information obtained from the pilot study and feedback from stakeholders. A draft Risk Assessment Framework and Fieldwork plan will be provided to stakeholders by the end of February 2025 for review. MVLWB and GNWT will provide comments and CWRS will revise and resubmit, as needed in advance of the 2025 field season. The team will meet and consult with stakeholders during the fieldwork visit to finalize plans and secure community contacts. The Risk Assessment Framework will be finalized based on the 2025 pilot study, and a second draft provided to NWT stakeholders for final review before the project completion in March 2026. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: May 01 - June 30, 2025
