Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 6055. The project will be guided by three objectives: (1) to identify the institutional pressures associated with regional policy in the context of sport participation in Canada, and (2) to understand how institutional factors impact regional differences in sport policy implementation. There is very little research has examined the role of provincial/territorial policy in sport policy implementation and sport participation outcomes in Canada. Drawing on a multiple case study methodology and principles of action research, the project has three phases. First, using critical policy analysis we will systematically examine the provincial and territorial policy contexts of sport participation. Second, we will conduct interviews with members of sport organizations, where we will conduct an analysis of the data collected in phase 1 and 2. After phase 2, the findings will be shared through policy workshops to share the information that was found. Finally, we will conduct action research with provincial/territorial sport organizations to implement and evaluate policy interventions and examine how regional policy impacts sport development and participation outcomes in differing regional contexts.
