Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 5957. To support environmental review of the Project, and namely, the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), research is required for the People and Communities section. Reporting on baseline conditions and Project related effects on People and Communities requires both secondary research and supplemental primary research; the research objective is to gather information to support a robust baseline and effects assessment. Nunami Stantec will identify businesses and organizations in Yellowknife to gather input on baseline conditions and potential effects of the Project on Employment and Economy, Non-Traditional Land and Resource Use, Infrastructure and Services, and Community Health and Well-being. Businesses and organizations in Yellowknife will be identified and contacted by email or telephone for participation in the research. Nunami Stantec is proposing a variety of research methods to undertake primary research, including focus groups and structured and semi-structured interviews in person and by phone. The methods will be refined with input from participating businesses and organizations. Timing of focus groups and interviews is anticipated to be approximately 1 hour each. One or two individuals from each business or organization will be interviewed. At the completion of each focus group or interview, Nunami Stantec will develop summary notes that outline the methods and results of the focus group or interview. Businesses and organizations in Yellowknife will be identified and contacted by email or telephone for participation in the research. Initially, participants will be engaged to begin familiarization with the Project and to discuss and coordinate subsequent research activities. Research will be conducted by telephone or in-person. Nunami Stantec will provide draft summary notes of the interviews to the business or organization for review and comment. Once draft summary notes are agreed upon and finalized, the information will be incorporated into the People and Communities baseline report and effects assessment for the Project EIS. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: October 15 - December 31, 2024
