Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 6010. The purpose of this project is to include local Indigenous voices more prominently in a second edition of Pike’s Portage: Stories of a Distinguished Place. The primary research method will be one-on-one semi-structured interviews with members of the Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation and others who have a significant relationship with the land included in Thaidene Nene National Park or were involved in the creation of the park. There may also be some archival research such as in the archives of The Prince of Wales Museum in Yellowknife, Parks Canada, and the Lutsel K'e Dene First Nations archives. The PI has been in contact with directly with the Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation and has been invited to present my vision of the second edition of the book to Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation Chief and Council on July 15, 2024 in Lutsel K'e. The PI will travel to Lutsel K'e to make that presentation. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: September 15 - December 31, 2024
