Objective(s): To provide Elections NWT with feedback regarding voter experiences with online voting and how the wildfires may have changed uptake.
Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 5900. To provide Elections NWT with feedback regarding voter experiences with online voting and how the wildfires may have changed uptake. The survey will be programmed and hosted using the Brock University Qualtrics platform. All persons who voted online will be sent a recruitment email inviting them to take a 5-minute survey about their voting experience. A link to the survey may also be posted on the Elections NWT website and promoted via their social media. If the prospective participant would like to take part in the survey, they will click on the link in their email or on the website and be directed to a landing page for the survey. Respondents provide consent to take part in the survey by clicking forward to participate in the survey. The landing page for the survey will include a short explanation of the nature of the project. In addition, a full Letter of Information/Consent will be linked to the initial landing page in pdf format. This will allow participants to download the form and save it to their computer should they wish to review the study details at a later time. The Recruitment Script, Letter of Information/ Consent and Survey Questionnaire are all attached as appendices. Since Internet voters can vote from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection (including their home, work, or another remote location), data collection will happen remotely. Data will be collected as computer responses, once the participant has clicked on the SUBMIT button. Please see additional responses below for details on data security. Survey data will be analyzed using SPSS software to prepare a short report with Qualitrics for Elections NWT and for future scholarly work (academic papers, and presentations to shed light on the changing experiences of Internet voters). Elections NWT will receive a copy of anonymized data. Data will be stored on password protected computers and any metadata collected i.e. IP address, will be wiped immediately following completion of data collection. All persons who voted online will receive a recruitment email and reminder message about taking part in a voluntary survey about their voting experience. A link to the survey may also be posted on the Elections NWT website and may be promoted via their social media. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from: March 20 - June 29, 2024
