Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No. 5552. The core question is based on Tlicho concepts of well-being, and the traditional understanding and worldview of “walking together” and what ecclesial model seems to best reflect healing and respect. The research has several objectives: 1) To conduct exploratory qualitative research on religion and culture in a Tlicho community located in Behchokö for well-being, health, and reconciliation; 2) to research on Tlicho Gonaewo and worldview in theology; and, 3) Through researching Tlicho Gonaewo, bring to life an unexplored Indigenous worldview in theology with an emphasis on one central doctrine of the Church, and on being a community model for "strong as two sticks". Aided by a Tlicho co-facilitator and interpreter, the proposed research is a community-based qualitative research method that will use individual interview questions and sharing circles to facilitate open and respectful dialogue. Data will be collected and information from both sessions will be assembled and analyzed. Research is voluntary and each participant will have a thorough briefing on the project and have their consent to participate. All data collected will be recorded and submitted to Tlicho Cultural Commons Digital Archives. Participant criteria will include the option to have or not have their name used - if not, the individual will be interviewed only and be given a Participant number. The research has 4 phases: Phase 1 is meeting with a co-facilitator and translator and selecting participants over the age of 60. Phase 2 is logistical - location, tools and pre-participant meet and greet. Phase 3 will be the interview and sharing circle phase in the community. The final phase will be a final thesis paper for submission to the University for review and grading and a presentation to the Tlicho community and closing ceremony as desired. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 30, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
