Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.5349. The purpose of the project is to study plants surviving in glaciated areas on the example of the most primitive vascular plants: the model genus Huperzia (Lycopodiophyta). The research team will study the distribution of ancestral and derived types of plants in arctic, boreal and alpine zones in context of climate changes in Huperzia and the mechanisms of plant speciation in changing arctic, boreal and alpine extreme conditions in Huperzia. The team will also study the relationship between global climate warming and changing plant biodiversity in northern latitudes The research team would like to collect samples from 1–3 locations in vicinity of the station Western Arctic Research Center (WARC). Number of localities depends on Huperzia plants occurrence in the area (if there won’t be good habitats and plants will be more scattered number of localities will be lower). Per one location 10 different plants of Huperzia in distance 2–3 m should be collected to zip-locked plastic bag, fertile parts of the frond (with sporangia and vegetative builbs) 5–10 cm long or whole plants (their size is 5-10x5cm ). The collection is not any interruption of other plants or different organisms and it is not necessary to damage soil around them. There are not any other activities connected with sampling on the localities. Just GPS should be noted. The samples will be sent live per post mail (all populations together). The collection will be done in one summer period, during vegetation season. Collection of samples will be done by technicians from WARC, then samples will be sent to applicants for analysing. After collection and transport of plants to the Czech Republic, the plants will be used for molecular and morphology study. Everything is just research purpose without any commercial use of plants. The methods of molecular study will depend on financial sources which our institution will have. Morphology present morphometric study of identification characters of Huperzia taxa. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 17, 2022 to November 30, 2022
