Objective(s): To better understand the global methane and carbon cycle.

Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.5211. This project will use aircraft-based instruments using both remote-sensing and in-situ-techniques to carry out measurements of methane and carbon trace gases and tracers related to their emissions. The results will help to better understand the global methane and carbon cycle. This mission makes use of the German research aircraft High Altitude and Long Range Research Aircraft (HALO). Aircraft-based instruments using both remote-sensing and in-situ-techniques will carry out measurements of methane and carbon trace gases and tracers related to their emissions. The German Embassy in Ottawa presented the project to Global Affairs Canada. The National Research Council in Ottawa and other research entities in Canada are being contacted for possible cooperation. A preparatory site visit is planned in March. A small team will be at Yellowknife March, 2022. A meeting with representative of local research groups is scheduled for March, 10, 2022. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 4, 2022 to September 24, 2022
