Objective(s): To identify the locations and fish habitat where Walleye spawn on the Little Buffalo and Slave Rivers to determine the timing period for migration and spawning in these areas.

Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.5199. The objectives of the study will be to identify the locations and fish habitat where Walleye spawn on the Little Buffalo and Slave Rivers to determine the timing period for migration and spawning in these areas. The Study would involve fisheries technical experts, academics, and local groups (e.g. Aboriginal Aquatic Resource and Oceans Management (AAROM)) and communities. The results of the Study will be useful in understanding factors affecting Walleye productivity in these rivers, and will provide valuable information for ongoing fisheries management in the region that can be shared with the Indigenous communities and DFO for fisheries management. The research team will be angling and netting, and assessing the and health of Walleye. Engagement meetings will be held with local communities. This plan was prepared specifically for the Walleye Spawning Study at the Little Buffalo and Slave Rivers. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from May 12, 2022 to August 31, 2022
