Objective(s): To acquire high-resolution aeromagnetic data that will support potential future ground-based geological mapping and provide basic information to support land use planning and mineral exploration.
Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.4682. The objective of this airborne survey is to acquire high-resolution aeromagnetic data. This survey will be flown to improve the knowledge of the area. It will support potential future ground-based geological mapping and provide basic information to support land use planning and mineral exploration. An aeromagnetic survey is undertaken entirely by flying. In order to acquire the level of detail that the team are looking for at this time, the plane would fly in lines approximately 100 metres (or 330 feet) apart. The flying height will be determined by topography with a minimum terrain clearance of 60 meters (or 200 feet) above the ground. The survey will consist of approximately 40,000 line km of flying. The intensity of the total magnetic field will be measured from the aircraft. Please note that aircraft will not touch down except at designated airstrips. The successful contractor will select and coordinate logistics for the base site, outside of the survey area. Based on past flying in the region, the weather may be bad or very cold so the aircraft may fly only once or twice every week. Under such conditions, the survey may take more than two months. The survey is anticipated to begin in February 2020 and end at the end of March, 2020. Copies of the final maps will be sent to the local communities if requested. The data will also be made publically available on-line for free download through the Geoscience Data Repository for Aeromagnetic Data (http://gdr.agg.nrcan.gc.ca/). The data will be published as maps available digitally for free download through NRCan's GeoGratis application (http://geogratis.gc.ca). The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from January 12, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
