Objective(s): To quantify essential habitat and characterize the thermal regimes necessary for population persistence.

Project Description: The first phase of this field program was implemented in 2018, where approximately twenty loggers were deployed and retrieved. A minimum sample size of seventy is required to build a robust stream temperature model. The research team propose to deploy July 14-15 and retrieve August 29-30 the remaining temperature loggers (n = 50) across the Fish Creek watershed. This data will be used to develop a stream temperature model to predict August mean stream temperatures across the watershed. This data will then be used to define the thermal envelope of juvenile and adult Dolly Varden and predict the extent of thermally suitable stream habitat across the river networks. The final stage of analysis will illustrate how the spatial extent of these habitats may change as streams temperatures increase. The research team will communicate the study through reports, presentations and posters.
