Project Description: The objectives of this project is to update and increase the understanding of the geological history of this area of the north-central Slave craton, Northwest Territories. This work will be conducted mostly by foot with access along the water provided by canoe and zodiac boat. The research team will be walking the land to make geological maps. The team will note observations of the rocks including the type, metamorphic grade, styles of alteration, deformation, etc. Hand-sized samples of rock will be collected. The samples will be sent away to laboratories or stored in Yellowknife. The Geological Survey of the Northwest Territories is recruiting northern summer students that are enrolled in natural science programs related to geology or geography. The reports and maps are all available free to the public and can be provided. This work will provide new information on the geological history of the study area and help increase knowledge about the earliest history of the rocks of the Northwest Territories All of the maps and reports generated from this program will be available for free on the Northwest Territories Geosicence Office website. There will be scientific presentations given at conference (e.g. Yellowknife Geoscience Forum). Presentations and copies of maps and reports can be made for the community upon request. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 26, 2019 to August 22, 2019.
