Objective(s): To evaluate the emergency protection order process in the Northwest Territories; and, to increase knowledge about the emergency protection order process among front line workers and the general public.
Project Description: The objectives of this project are to improve the emergency protection order (EPO) process in the Northwest Territories, and, to increase knowledge about the EPO process amongst frontline workers and the general public. A case study approach will be used. Frontline workers (including Shelter workers, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Justice of the peace officers, Victim Service Workers, Community Justice Workers) will be interviewed. As well, victims of violence who have applied and received an EPO will be recruited and interviewed about their experiences. The local community Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) is involved in this project. The research team will write a report that will be shared with frontline workers and placed on the Aurora Research Institute website.
